This is my first letter as Chairman of Governors since I took over in October 2008. The last 12 months have been a steep learning curve for me!
As you will know, the Governing Body is supporting Tony Bavington and the staff with the challenges post fire. Once result was the new school building being ready for January this year, in itself an incredible feat.
Many people talk about the spirit of St Felix and what a special community we have. This was demonstrated to me by the Staff and Pupils - both past and present - at the Regeneration Event at Tattersalls. It was highly charged and emotional, with many people from the local community showing their affection for St Felix. This only happens when you have a dedicated team of staff who do their utmost to provide your children with academic excellence and pastoral care.
We welcome children with diverse needs and this is reflected in the excellent reputation of our Special Educational Needs (SEN) team. We continue to have children representing their County in many sports; the whole school Christmas production at Tattersalls and many public performances of our talented musicians, including hand bells and steel pans. We also provide many extra curricular activities including breakfast club and residential trips for each year group. The Governors are very grateful to all the staff for their dedication, commitment and professionalism.
I would also like to highlight the dedication and support of the Governing Body and the Home and School Association (HSA) who all commit so much time for the benefit of the children.
We are looking ahead positively and having the same brilliant staff in a brand new school with great facilities is a winning formula.
It is an honour to be the Chair of such a great school and we look forward to welcoming you into the St Felix family.
Aidan Walmsley - Chair of Governors
