The year following our catastrophic fire in August 2008 was the most challenging in the
school’s history. We spent the autumn term hosted by other Newmarket schools in a
collection of spare rooms, portakabins and the Scout Hut.
No-one believed we could put up a new school building in five months, but in January 2009
we moved into our modular portakabin building on our back field. Someone said that a
building is a machine, and we spent the rest of the term learning how to make it work.
The amazing spirit of St Felix, the dedication of all connected with the school and the
support of our local community carried us through this period of recovery. We were able to
nurture the talent of our children whilst offering high standards of care.
Now we are determined to press on with the improvements that we had started before the
fire so that once again we can combine our high standards of care, high standards of
performance in sport and the arts, with high standards of academic achievement.
I do hope you will take the opportunity to visit us in our new building. Please contact the
school to arrange a visit. We will make you welcome at any time.
Yours sincerely,
Tony Bavington - Headteacher
